Indonesia
With more than 17000 islands no wonder Indonesia is a big country. It is also one of the most populated countries in the world. I landed in this vast piece of paradise on September the 22nd, 2018. After having spent the previous eleven months in Australia (doing my Work & Holiday visa) I felt both excited and happy when, a couple of days ago, I decided to choose this beautiful country as the starting point of my 3-month solo trip. I had 30 days in Indonesia ahead of me and I couldn’t wait for it!
During my month in Indonesia, I was lucky enough to spend 10 days in Bali, where I visited Ubud and all 3 Nusas. I also went to dive in Tulamben, where I got my Advanced Open Water. I took a bus and arrived in Java, where I visited Yogyakarta and its temples and climbed Mount Ijen and Mount Bromo.
From Java I took a flight to Sumatra because I wanted to look for orangutans in the jungle. To that extent I spent 2D1N in the jungle of Ketambe. After enjoying such a unique experience, I took a bus to Banda Aceh and from there I made it to Pulau Weh, where I spent some days diving. The final part of my adventure in Indonesia took place in Komodo National Park, where I saw the Komodo Dragon and had the best dive of my life.
People were nice, the food was good and the landscapes were stunning.
Are you ready to visit Indonesia? 🙂
10 days in Bali
Arriving in Bali I arrived at Denpasar’s airport early the morning of September the 22nd, 2018. I didn’t have any hostel booked so I decided to start my adventure like a truly backpacker: sleeping at the airport. After a “great” night of sleep, when I saw the first signs of
Chasing the blue fire at Kawah Ijen
Arriving in Banyuwangi As you might remembered, I had just arrived at Gilimanuk harbour, got off the bus and went upstairs to take a look at the strip of sea separating Bali from Java. It wasn’t easy to find out the cheap and easy route from Bali to Java, or,
Hiking to Mount Bromo on your own
From Kawah Ijen to Mount Bromo After my first-ever nightly hike chasing the blue fire at Kawah Ijen, I felt like I wanted to check yet another incredible volcano. As you might remember, Kawah Ijen is kind of close to Banyuwangi. Mount Bromo is within the town of Cemorolawang. Thus,
3 days in Yogyakarta
From Mount Bromo to Yogyakarta After an incredible time hiking to one of the most amazing volcanoes in Java, we decided to head to the centre of the Javanese fine arts and culture. We didn’t know it just yet but we would spending 3 days in Yogyakarta. Again, depending on
7 days in Java
Arriving in Java I arrived in Java on October the 1st, 2018. There are different ways to get to Java and, depending on where you are in the world, you might pick one or another. In my case, I was in Kuta, Bali. I wanted to hike to Kawah Ijen
From Yogyakarta to Ketambe
Why did I leave the capital of fine arts and culture and decide to make it to Sumatra? Why did I travel all the way from Yogyakarta to Ketambe? As I have already mentioned a few times, I started my trip in Indonesia with pretty much nothing planned. That was
